Some ramblings about 1916, the summer and my new upcoming album.
WEDNESDAY 19TH OF OCTOBER 2016
Our production to commemorate 1916 at Madinat Theatre in April was a huge success! The Irish Dancers and musicians & other volunteers were fantastic. We got it on video and I've posted some snippets already. I'll continute to do so over the next while as I release songs from the show (like Grace and Four Green Fields). I also acted in the First Part of the the show, playing the role of Seamus in the O'Casey play SHADOW OF A GUNMAN. That was great fun & special thanks to MICK LOUGHMAN for helping me get the inner city Dublin Accent for the part.
Summer was grand. Played some gigs in Canada with my old pal MIKIE OSHEA on fiddle. And then played for some weddings in DONEGAL and KILLARNEY with Dad on accordion. Those 2 weeks at home were magical! We also fitted in some pub gigs in Dads home town of KENMARE for the 15th August FAIR DAY celebrations. Oh what craic! We even had some ex-UAE teachers come down for the gigs!
The latest thing I'm working on is releasing a new album. I've recorded the songs and am at the point of final touches before mastering. Hope to get it officially released by XMAS. The album contains my musicial version of LUKE KELLY's poem, Sons of Roisin, as well as some covers like LION MAN and some originals like One for the ROAD. I'm finding the last few steps the hardest just to let go of this baby!
